In Mathematics, we are learning about repeated addition and multiplication. We learnt how to make arrays to help us work out and understand our two and five times tables.

The students and I wish you all a very happy Valentine’s Day. Enjoy spending time with the people you love!

The students made roosters as past of their learning about the Chinese New Year celebrations.

We have been learning about the Chinese New Year and its importance to the Chinese culture. The students watched videos about the Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated. We also learnt about the twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac and how each year is named after one of the twelve animals. The students researched the twelve Chinese animals and learnt how to write the Chinese character for each animal. Happy Chinese New Year to everyone-especially the roosters! It’s your special year!

The students completed an “All About Me” sheet where they recorded information about themselves. They then shared their posters with other students. This helped the students to get to know each other and form new friendships. What a great start to the school year and the beginning of new friendships!

This morning we began Bookmaking as part of our Literacy block. The students were given their own bookmaking folders where they are able to keep all of their “work in progress”. We discussed the different parts of a book, dedications, authors, illustrators and publishing dates. The students eagerly began writing, illustrating and creating their own books. There were a variety of books in progress- narratives, comics, jokes and riddles, poetry and also some non-fiction texts. The students were very engaged in their learning- as you can see from the photos! We look forward to hearing the students read their books to the class and also to our Buddy Class.

We were fortunate to have Blair Price (a very talented cartoonist, artist, musician and teacher) come to talk to the students about Cartooning. He presented many different examples of his work and offered the students an opportunity to be involved in the Cartooning Club which is being offered to students during this term. There were many enthusiastic students all excited to be involved in the Cartooning Club and learn all about cartooning.
